test The Architectural Preservation Institute is committed to promoting excellence in the implementation of historic preservation related projects. As historic preservation has gained prominence in the policy objectives of an increasing number and variety of private and public sector decision makers, the demand for effective management techniques and well trained managers has increased. The Department of Construction Management houses API at the Industrial Sciences Building, 251 West Laurel Street in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The API attempts to satisfy this demand by:

  • preparing well trained and well-rounded graduates,
  • assisting communities and the stewards of historic properties, and
  • advancing knowledge through applied and integrative research projects.

Our work builds upon the strengths of our academic home in a department committed to technology and management.

Chris Koziol , Ph.D. AIA, AICP, LEED-AP
Christopher Koziol is a licensed architect and faculty member at Colorado State University, where he is executive director of the Architectural Preservation Institute. He is also a board member of the statewide nonprofit Colorado Preservation Inc. His particular area of interest is in intervening in the built environment to interpret culture and in valorizing the role of vernacular construction in the establishment of place. In addition to the technical and design issues involved in such a program, Mr. Koziol has also pursued implementation issues related to both market economics and public policy.

Our Mission: Colorado State University's Architectural Preservation Institute (API) provides research, outreach, and educational opportunities and resources to the preservation community at large; including preservation professionals, students, property owners, contractors, and craft workers. Our purpose is to empower those people charged with protecting our cultural heritage with the knowledge to preserve that heritage into the future, with sensitivity and skill.
